Sustainability

Overview

At Going Nepal, sustainability isn’t an add-on—it’s at the core of how we operate, design trips, and engage with communities. We believe tourism should uplift people, safeguard nature, and preserve culture for generations to come. Our approach blends environmental protection, social responsibility, and ethical travel practices so that every journey with us leaves a positive imprint on destinations and the people who call them home.

What We Do

Sustainability Policy & Responsible Practices

sustainability

Going Nepal’s sustainability policy guides every decision we make as a travel company, from internal operations and partnerships to how we design experiences for travellers.

We are fully committed to reducing negative impacts and maximising positive outcomes on the environment, culture, economy, and social fabric of the destinations where we operate. This commitment is detailed across defined themes, including environmental stewardship, community relations, ethical conduct, and customer engagement.

Internally, we focus on energy and water conservation waste reduction, and responsible procurement.

Externally, we collaborate with sustainable accommodations, promote low-impact transport choices, and ensure excursions respect local ecosystems and cultural values. We also maintain rigorous social policies that protect human rights, support fair wages, and uphold child protection standards across our supply chain. Every partner we contract, be it guesthouse, guide, or activity provider, is encouraged and supported to adopt sustainable practices. Through training and communication, our team is empowered to implement these standards consistently.

At the destination level, we consider environmental capacity and heritage integrity when selecting or promoting sites.

Finally, we prioritize open and honest communication with travellers about responsible behaviors and provide guidance on how to make a positive contribution while exploring Nepal
What We Do

Going Green initiatives

Going Green initiatives

Being “green” is about action, innovation, and conscious choices — whether behind the scenes or out in the field

At Going Nepal, we support eco-friendly practices across travel experiences and operations, starting with transportation, one of the largest contributors to carbon emissions. We encourage partnerships with providers that offer electric, hybrid, or fuel-efficient vehicles, and we promote shared mobility options like carpooling where feasible.

For shorter distances, we support the use of bicycles and other low-emission transport, inviting travellers to experience destinations at a human pace while reducing environmental impact

We work closely with hotels and lodges that prioritise sustainability, such as those with electric vehicle charging stations or green energy initiatives, helping guests access low-impact mobility throughout their stay. When unavoidable emissions occur, we participate in carbon offset programs with trusted partners to balance our footprint.

WWe also engage in awareness campaigns to inspire travellers and partners to adopt greener practices, such as choosing fuel-efficient options, reducing idling time, and thinking critically about travel modes.

We see every journey as an opportunity to shift expectations toward more mindful and climate-friendly travel while protecting Nepal’s natural beauty and cultural heritage for future explorers.
What We Do

Animals-Free Travel & Wildlife Respect

Going Green initiatives

Respect for animal life and ecosystems is central to our sustainable tourism philosophy.

Going Nepal strongly supports travel experiences that do not exploit or harm animals. We avoid offering tours that involve captive wildlife, performances, or activities that compromise animal welfare. Our commitment goes beyond simply excluding harmful attractions—we aim to elevate tourism offerings that celebrate biodiversity ethically and responsibly.

In national parks and wildlife reserves, we promote observation from safe distances and work only with licensed guides who prioritise the well-being of animals and their habitats

Tourist interactions are designed to avoid stress or behavioral disruption, ensuring that the rhythms of wildlife remain undisturbed by human presence. In addition, we discourage practices such as elephant rides, animal performances, and encounters where animals are encouraged to behave unnaturally for entertainment. Instead, we encourage experiences that honor ecological balance like guided birdwatching, educational wildlife safaris, and consultations with conservationists.

Through careful planning, traveller education, and strict activity selection, we help foster deeper appreciation for Nepal’s remarkable biodiversity without compromising its future

Visitors are always briefed on respectful behaviour, such as maintaining quiet observation, avoiding direct contact, and not feeding wildlife. By choosing ethical experiences, travellers contribute to long-term protection of species and habitats in Nepal’s mountains, jungles, and valleys.
What We Do

Plastic Reduction & Waste Management

Plastic Reduction

Single-use plastics are one of the most visible impacts of modern travel, especially in fragile environments like mountain trails and rural villages where waste management systems are limited

Going Nepal takes a practical, results-focused approach to discourage plastic use at every stage of travel. We actively work to eliminate disposable plastics in our offices and during tours by promoting alternatives such as reusable water bottles, cloth bags, and eco-friendly packaging.

Wherever possible, we collaborate with partners who share this priority, including lodges and transport providers that support refill stations, bulk amenities, and recycling efforts

Travellers are encouraged to carry reusable utensils, refuse unnecessary packaging, and minimise waste generation throughout their journey. In guided trekking and wilderness areas, our teams follow the principle of Leave No Trace, meaning all personal and group waste is carried back and disposed of responsibly. We communicate simple but impactful habits to travellers like choosing products with minimal packaging, avoiding plastic straws, and bringing reusable shopping bags which collectively yield powerful results in reducing litter and pressure on local waste systems.

This effort not only protects landscapes and waterways but also preserves the scenic beauty that makes Nepal a compelling destination.

Together with local communities and partners, Going Nepal champions awareness campaigns focused on waste prevention, proper disposal, and the long-term benefits of plastic-free travel.
What We Do

Sustainable Tourism with Students & Youth

Students

Educating the next generation about responsible travel is a priority for Going Nepal

As tourism evolves, we see a unique opportunity to inspire young travellers, students, and emerging professionals to understand the long-term impacts of tourism on people and the planet. Through structured educational initiatives, workshops, and travel experiences tailored for student groups, we introduce sustainable tourism principles in a way that is engaging, practical, and memorable.

Students learn why sustainable choices matter, from protecting ecosystems to supporting local livelihoods and how those choices influence the world around them.

We collaborate with schools, universities, and youth organisations to provide resources, guided discussions, and experiential learning during tours that highlight responsible behaviours. These include choosing eco-friendly accommodations, engaging respectfully with communities, and understanding the cultural and environmental significance of the places they visit.

By embedding sustainability into student travel programs, we help build empathy, environmental awareness, and a deeper sense of global citizenship.

We also work closely with local partners, such as conservation groups and community organisations, to offer students hands-on opportunities to participate in service projects, environmental clean-ups, and cultural preservation activities. In doing so, we help young travellers connect what they learn on the road with real-world actions that benefit host communities and ecosystems.
